How can a pastor prevent work overload?

A pastor must take charge of his time just as he does his money. You budget money, so budget your time. It is imperative that you allocate time on day to day basis to be with your spouse and children. Obviously you may not be able to spend enough time with them every day so you must plan times each week. Do not allow too much time to go buy without spending quality time with your family.  It is vital that you have extended vacations planned into your calendar. You should never feel guilty about this. Remember, the first harvest you must see saved is your family!

You must also know your own body, mind, and spirit. When you feel you have reached your limit, back off and take time for yourself. Time for yourself, even apart from your family, is often needful. Do not try to be a hero and burn yourself out. You may be able to keep running on empty for a while, but eventually you will run out of energy! Quit making excuses and just do it. All of us have the same number of days and hours so use them wisely.
