What are the key studies that we can give kids to give them foundation in the Apostles Doctrine? Should it start at home?
. First of all, yes, foundational teaching should start in the home (Deuteronomy 6), but should you count on that? Does your pastor count on you to get good doctrinal teaching in your home, or does he continue to teach it from the pulpit and in Bible studies? With the small amount of time families spend together these days, and that number is decreasing, you will be doing your students a disservice if you assume they will get the teaching that they need. It is not time to preach and teach things that will tickle the ears of your congregation. They need truth, apostolic doctrine, and the gospel. But if you don’t present these things correctly, you may run some people off.
You could teach your students a series using the main doctrinal scriptures in the Gospels, then in Acts and finish with 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. Mix these scriptures with personal experience/testimony and anointing, and the outcome will be a great success. You as a youth minister are in the foundation business. We are establishing what they will build the rest of their walk with God on, carry that burden and be as effective as you can be.
